Post modern art approaches and their effects on Turkish painting

This research involves `Post-modern Art Approaches and Their Effects on Turkish Painting? subject. The aim of this research is to analyse the effects of art approaches on Turkish painting which are occured in postmodern period that is called after modern period. In this period, new art approaches are taken in hand about subject, technique and applications. The effects of art approaches, which are occured in The West after 1960, to art atmosphere of Turkey; and their works and artists, who target other current approaches beside canvas painting, are researched in the theoretical framework. The socio-economic, technologic and politic changes after 1980 period in Turkey and the reasons, which are formed the art atmosphere and mainly belogs to these changes, are evaluated. This research is important because of giving place to the artists who indicate the installation and Conceptual Art approaches as breaking away the traditional canvas painting and classic sculpture understanding.Restraints of this research, which is formed with lining model, are about reflections the modern and postmodern concepts, which are exclipated and arisen from The West, on Turkey. The research is limited with the artists who come out after 1980 period in Turkey and who express other current approaches beside canvas painting. In conclusion, as the canvas painting is interrogated after 1980 period in Turkey, different approaches are presented with new materials to the spectators. Artists, who perform their Works in Minimalism, Conceptual Art, Installation, Photograph, Video, Happening and Performance Art, take place in International Exhibitions and biennals. Artists carry the art out of the traditional lines instead of exhibiting their work itself objectively. These artists not only find alternative approaches to the painting and sculpture but also they expand the Definition of Art.
