Modern Türkiye'nin tartışmalı kuruluşu: Halkın sözleriyle (1923–1948)

This thesis explores the everyday experiences and political sub-jectivities of ordinary citizens in early Republican Turkey through a close examination of letters and petitions submitted to state officials and party headquarters (Republican People's Party, hereafter RPP) between 1932 and 1948. Drawing from archival sources, the study analyzes how individuals articulated grievances related to employment, poverty, injustice, and local political representation. Rather than treat-ing the state as a monolithic or detached institution, the thesis adopts a relational perspective that views state-society interactions as mutually constitutive. By foregrounding the voices of petitioners, this research challenges elite-centered narratives and contributes to a more nuanced understanding of the early Republic's social fabric. It also critical-ly engages with the historiography of modern Turkey by incorporating perspectives from social history, archival theory, and theories of every-day resistance. Through these lenses, the thesis demonstrates how or-dinary people navigated and negotiated the rapidly transforming political order of their time.
