Photographs and minorities in İstanbul as a means of cultural representation in the process of modernism

The project; the universal and post-structuralist critical basis oriented towards a photograph concept having an autonomous structuring within contemporary art paradigms and practices focusing upon a local problematic has been acted out in the context of the interdisciplinary expansions of the issue argued out. The general perspective upon which photograph undertaking a demonstrative role as a cultural representation problematic in the process of modernism gets complicated in the custom of a photographical presentation understanding dating back to the first domestic studios of minorities to the present bases upon a semiotic theoretical substructure. The socio-strategic, ethno-cultural and political dimensions of the subject are accrued in accordance with the universal theoretical contexts anticipated by interdisciplinary art methodology over this cognitive background. Hence, a new reading and criticism on the basis of a comparative modernism critic of the historical and actual casual correlations attained among the versatile expansions of the problematic argued out has been accessed.The study, the knowledge accumulation and presentation problematic wielding from post-structuralist critic comprehension is restructured on an axis anticipated by interdisciplinary contemporary art theories, is carried out together with a cultural accumulation that can be taken up as references for the very subject. At this pace, not only the present theoretical background and texts but also a wide range presentation of visual documents having the qualification of comprising the problematic anticipated by the very background has been realized.In accordance with this objective, methods based upon humanities like field survey, visual archive research and oral history have been included in the study as preferential objective of the project. Hence, a new visual anthology exemplified especially with the presentation problematic of the present theoretical basis has been displayed.
