Music policies and main devolepments in the traditional Turkish art music within the context modernization

The objective of this thesis titled of ?Music Policies and Main Devolopments in the Traditional Turkish Art Music within the Context Modernization? is to analyze the effects of the cultural revolutions carried out through music during the Republican era on Otoman/Turkish Classical Music and to investigate in what ways the policies followed changed Otoman/Turkish Classical Music. The analysis of these changes extended through the Republican era., encompassing the Otoman period. Many of the differentiation which emerged with the modernization movement encompassed music which is a kind of culture the society creates and it transformed into a policy in the Republican era. This process, begining with the questioning the identity of Ottoman/Turkish Classical Music, contunied with the prohibition ok the Turkish Classical Music. In this post graduate thesis, the effects of the events across the world and basic principles brought about by these events on these prohibitions have been explained as much as possible. During this perriod, with the works performed in the name of ?national music? a new direction was aimed to be given to the music and, in turn, to the society. In the process of Turkish Modernization, music was seen a social-cultural concept as it needs to be and it assumed an important role within the modernization plans of the Republic. This thesis also includes in what ways music was influenced by the social differentiation during the decade from 1940s until 1960s, which can be considered the second half of the Republic. This thesis is comprised of three sectios. In the sections of conscepts, the concept of modernization has been analyzed. This section explains how the turkish modernization process and gives us an understanding of the modernization process in music with in this context. The second section deals with the work in the field of music in the Republican era. The third section dwells on how these Works influenced Otoman/Turkish Music.
