Özet (EN)
The aim of this study is to examine the changes that economic policies have brought about in today's urban structure and life by moving from the concepts of modernism and postmodernism. The effect of modernism on today's urban life has been extensively discussed in the literature. Developments and changes since the emergence of cities have brought about the centralization and institutionalization of management tools. Therefore, we live in a new way of life, in a new order, in which production and economy include us. We live in an order that deeply shapes our way of life with modern life and increasingly in a global village. The harsh and ruthless living conditions created by capitalism in industrialized cities have taken their current form with the management tools added to the harsh power of the sovereignty of the nation-states established in the 19th century. Assuming that the differentiation in urban life has become the focal point, producer and organizer of daily life; The economic policies of modern/post-modern life have changed the face and life of cities. From the perspective of the right to the city, it would be best to focus on the influence areas of liberal and neoliberal policies in modern life and to discuss the concept of the right to the city. In the context of the right to the city, in modern cities where public spaces/spaces have decreased, new life styles have emerged in which common living spaces have also changed. In the study, the researches of the Karaköy/Beyoğlu region will be examined and the effects of economic policies will be discussed. The search for the right to the city has emerged within the relationship of the historical change of the Beyoğlu region with the economic policies. In this region, public spaces have decreased and a free market economy has been implemented. These spaces, which have acquired new functions with the needs and perspectives of the economic order, have changed over the years by opening to constructions or with urban transformations. Keywords: modernism, city, liberalism, neoliberalism, city rights
