Küregens in the Mongol and Timurid periods

The title "küregen" is defined as "a name or title used in connection with a person's work, profession, or social status." It also refers to "the name or title by which a person is represented or referred to in connection with their office and the insignia of sovereignty." The central theme of this study titled "Küregen in the Moghul and Timurid Period" is the küregen. While marrying a noble and distinguished woman from the lineage of Genghis Khan was a prerequisite for becoming a küregen, it is possible to find küregens in the sources who became küregens without knowing who they married and even gained rank in military and administrative matters thanks to their titles. Being a küregen was undoubtedly one of the ways to gain legitimacy and power. The best example of this is Emir Timur. Emir Timur was recognized as a küregen due to his marriage to Saray Mülk Hanım. Through this marriage, he was able to trace his lineage to Genghis Khan. Aware of the power that could be gained from such political marriages, Timur instructed his children and grandchildren to make marriages for them to be küregens. Before looking at the küregens in the Moghuls and Timurids, it is quite important to look at the lives of the women who will provide them with this influence and to get to know them. Getting to know many distinguished Moghol women such as Sorkoktani Beki, Bağdat Hatun, Dilşad Hatun, starting with Alan Hoa, who is thought to be Genghis Khan's ancestor, and talking about their rights to speak on state administration is important for understanding the activities of the küregens. For many statesmen, having such an important title stems from the representation of absolute power. Therefore, it is possible to encounter küregens who have been involved in various activities in the Moghuls and Timurids. This study aims to reveal the lives of people who gained the right to speak in these states and worked in various institutions of the state, and their activities within the state during this process.
