Abstract (EN)
The aim of our study is to assess objective compliance levels of monoblock and twin-block appliances in skeletal class II patients with mandibular retrognathie and determine the influence of age, sex and appliance type on compliance. A clinical study was conducted with a cohort of 30 patients aged between 10-15, who were randomly divided equally into two study groups. One group was fitted with monoblock and other with twin-block. They were instructed to wear their appliance for 15 hours per day. Wear times were monitored by a microsensor for an average of 6 appointments. Patients also wrote their own wear times on a table. Data were determined with statistical analysis. The mean wear-time was 10.67±3,93 hours, less then 15 hours prescribed. Regular use rate, which shows days with wear time of 8 hours or more per day, is %75. Compliance is significantly better with younger patients. Appliance type and gender had no significant effect on compliance levels. Compliance level was declined by %35 after 6 appointments. Patients declared their wear time more than their actual wear time by an average of 3,76 hours. Despite their different designs, monoblock and twin-block appliances had no significant effect on compliance. Compliance levels are significantly lower with increased age and duration of treatment, which can compromise success in removable appliances.
