Abstract (EN)

Montesquieu, one of the 18th century enlightenment thinkers, examines with many issues related to politics in his work called On the Spirit of Laws. The two topics that we chose to examine in our thesis, in relation to each other, are separation of powers and liberty. The subject we have chosen to examine in our thesis is the concept of separation of powers, which ensures the realization of political liberty, according to the thinker. This concept, which still maintains its importance today, will be examined from Montesquieu's perspective in our study. In this context, the study is divided into three main parts. In the first part, the intellectual origins of the separation of powers theory will be discussed. In the second part, Montesquieu's; his life, personality, method and important works will be examined. In the third chapter, the meaning given by Montesquieu to the concept of separation of powers, which is closely related to political liberty, will be examined.
