Economic botanical researches on beneficial plants sold in Egyptian Bazaar herbalists

Abstract (EN)

In today's societies, people use beneficial plants for many reasons such as proper nutrition, the desire to live healthy and long, youth and beauty desire. Useful plants that are used in various field and herbal products obtained from these plants are provided by herbalists who have a long history. For this reason, it is seen that there are studies on herbalist and herbal products in many fields. The subject of the thesis is determined to be the bazaar herbalists, since no detailed studies were found on the historical Egyptian Bazaar herbalists in Istanbul. 10 shops in the historical bazaar participated in the study, and some other people did not want to participate in the study for various reasons. As a result of the interviews, the information about age, gender, education and plants of the 10 herbalists that participated in the study were determined by the questionnaire presented to them by the resource persons. Information about the procurement and the sale processes of herbal products sold were also obtained through the questionnaire. As a result of the study, 152 genera and 175 taxa belonging to 74 families were determined among the plants sold by herbalists, the used parts of these plants and their intended use were determined in line with the information given by the resource persons. It has been determined that herbal products are used for therapeutic, food and some other purposes, and the use of information for therapeutic purposes was compared with the literature information by scanning scientific resources. It was observed that the usage information given by herbalists was generally compatible with the literature information. Findings and results obtained as a result of the study are presented in tables. With the study, it has been determined that the products in herbal shops and similar shops are herbal and herbal products that meet the food, treatment and cosmetic needs of the people. It has been concluded that herbalists play an effective role in terms of human health. Programs and advertisements made by the media increase the demand and cause uncontrolled consumption of herbal products. The advice given to the consumer by unauthorized people about these products puts the health of the person at risk. It has been concluded that these products that can affect human health which should be healthy and reliable. It can be said that it may be unbeneficial or even harmful for the consumer if the necessary sensitivity is not shown during the storage and sale of herbal products in shops. It was concluded that the herbalists and the people who will undertake this work should prioritize human health and obey the rules of control and order, and the experts and institutions responsible for the audit should show the necessary care in this regard.
