Abstract (EN)

Objective: In this study, it was aimed to evaluate diabetes self-management in type 2 diabetic patients. Materials and Methods: Our research was planned as a cross-sectional study. Between March and April 2021, data were collected from 377 patients diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes who were admitted to the Muğla Training and Research Hospital Internal Medicine Outpatient Clinic by interviewing the participants. In order to make an evaluation for diabetes, it was planned to use the sociodemographic form prepared by the researcher by reviewing the literature and the diabetes self-management scale in people with Type 2 diabetes. The data obtained were evaluated by appropriate statistical methods. Statistical significance level was accepted as <0.05 in all analyses. Findings: The mean age of the patients participating in the study was 62.12 ± 12.29 years. 55.4% of the participants were male and 44.6%were female. 80.6% of the participants were married, 44.9% were primary school graduates, 44.8% were retired, the mean BMI was 29.76±4.96, and 44.6% were obese. With the scores obtained by the participants from the diabetes self-management scale, a significant difference was found between gender, educational status, BMI status, presence of diabetes in the family, diabetes education status, diabetes diagnosis period, presence of other chronic diseases in addition to diabetes, diabetes treatment type and regular use status, influenza and pneumococcal vaccination, admission to the hospital related to diabetes in the last year and disruption of diabetes follow-up during the pandemic period (p<0.05). Conclusion: As a result, it is important to provide diabetes training during each examination of patients with type 2 diabetes where diabetes self-management is an important step of diabetes.
