Abstract (EN)

Culture is one of the constituent of a society. Therefore, transferring from generation to generation is of great importance. Today, the development of technology and science affects societies' culture and lifestyle. Customs and traditions, which have been going on for centuries, are changing due to this development. After a certain period of time, People's daily events become a part of the culture in that region. Birth, which is the leading one, is regarded as the beginning of life and is the first of the named by transition periods. In this study, it is examined what kind of applications are made in order to have a child within the borders of Menteşe district of Muğla, how the birth takes place and which applications are analyzed to mother and baby after birth. Purpose of the study is to examine the data which are obtained by the methods applied to prevent pregnancy, which remedies are used to eliminate infertility, which names are given to the man and woman who do not have children and how they are treated in society, how the woman who will have a child undergoes the pregnancy process, how give birth in which environment, which methods are applied to the baby after birth and procedures that the mother should pay attention. The most important role in this study belongs to women. The greatest expectation from a woman is fertility in her family. Because of the continuation of a lineage is depending on the children which born in that family. Therefore, women use some traditional methods to have children. The concurrent method was used during the research to determine the remedies applied. With this research, it is tried to record the information that is almost lost and to make it permanent. How important it is for a family to have children. The methods that families use to have children were determined. It has been observed how important the methods used are in the traditional structure. Key Words: Muğla, birth, woman, belief, child.
