Conservative democracy and the women's issue

In this thesis, the women's issue within the framework of the concepts of conservatism and democracy has been examined. The reason to elaborate on the concept is the although democracy does not always evoke modernism, the Republic which was accepted with the collapse of the Ottoman state in Turkey brought democracy and innovations together and conservatism reflects traditionalism. In the following chapter, the historical processes of women's rights movements in the West and in Turkey are examined. Thus, it is aimed to clarify the issue of how societies view women's rights and what improvements are made. Moreover, in the chapter about historical processes of women's rights movements in Turkey, women's rights policies of governments are included. In this way, while discussing the conservative democracy's view of women in the last chapter of this paper, it is aimed to be better discerned the historical and social connections between them. As a matter of fact, in the conservative democracy section, comparison and discussion ground are sought by referring to the government policies and discourses, which are not included in the conservative, liberal feminist, and left-wing parties. In addition to these, it is mentioned why the Istanbul Convention was terminated within the scope of the women's issue in the last section. From a historical perspective, the first conclusion drawn from this research is that conservatism continues in this geography, albeit in different forms. The second conclusion is that the women issue is readdressed in accordance with the pragmatist nature of politics.
