Abstract (EN)
With the rise of political Islam in Turkey and shifting of media power in 2000s, there have been many conservative leaning changes in the country. In this context, economically and socially reshaped hijab wearing women was modernized and a new hijab fashion was created. As a good medium for reaching consumers woman magazines also affected by this social shift and gave birth to conservative, hijab wearing women's magazines. In 2010s conservative women's magazines became one of the means of following hijab fashion as they became more visible in the public life and change their consumption habits. During this period, conservative women's magazines began printing with an aim to guide the women on modernized hijab fashion, and their numbers increased. This thesis aims to provide a detailed comparative cover analysis of Âlâ with licensed local edition of Cosmopolitan magazines, pointing out the similarities and differences in the context of consumerism and commodification of the female body, taking the political background of modernised hijab wearing women and birth of Islamic fashion with their effect on mass media channels in to consideration.
