Muhammed Ihsan Oğuz's understanding of religion and society

In this theoretical study, by using qualitative research method, an interdisciplinary approach was displayed through the technique of text scanning especially by looking at it from the perspective of sociology of religion. And, in general terms, the impacts of social change processes in Turkey on reflections of M. İhsan Oğuz' s understanding of religion and society were focused. Investigating M. İhsan Oğuz' s understanding of religion and society will make new contribution to making sense of the place of religion and society relationship in changing Turkey in view of the fact that M. İhsan Oğuz belonged to the branch of Nakşibendi – Halidi and he was well known with his intense learning activities. In Turkish modernization attempts, it is clearly seen that not only religious groups affected modernization but also they were affected by modernization processes. M. İhsan Oğuz' s religious and social understanding consists of both traditional and modern elements. He did not reject social change and he could adapt himself to it. Through his doctrine of "Ahseniyye Yolu", he brought a new perspective to the sufistic tradition that he belongs to with his reformist identity. M.İhsan Oğuz' s comments to social institutions are within the frame of the vundamentals of "morals, social morals, justice and social justice". Especially, the fact that his idea about the institution of politics is built around "democracy" and his explanation which is "democracy" goes with republic draw attention.
