Abstract (EN)
This study focuses on refugee children's psychosocial health within the framework of the Family Stress Model (FSM). It examines how economic stress and post-migration living difficulties (PMLD) are related to child behavior problems, focusing on both direct and indirect relationships through maternal depression. The study employed a cross-sectional design and was conducted with a sample of 234 Syrian mothers residing in Türkiye, each providing information on one child (125 girls, 109 boys) between the ages of 4 and 16 years (M = 8.99, SD = 3.24). Participants completed a set of questionnaires online, assessing economic stress, post-migration living difficulties, maternal depression, and child behavior problems. Results from path analysis showed that economic stress and PMLD are directly related to child behavior problems. Additionally, both economic stress and PMLD were related to child behavior problems through maternal depression. The findings supported the FSM's proposed indirect pathways for both economic stress and PMLD, underscoring the crucial mediating roles of maternal depression. Results emphasized the importance of mental health and interventions focusing on maternal depression to decrease the negative effects of external stressors on refugee children's psychosocial health.
