Evaluating the paradigm in the refugee regime in terms of "Integration" and "Management"

This research evaluates the new paradigm in the refugee regime in the light of neoliberalism's aim to regulate the nexus between capital and labor by examining whether its purpose is to integrate or manage refugees. Based on a qualitative analysis, it is concluded that the regime's paradigm is dominated by containment and preventive strategies that filter refugees, lowering their numbers and the protection granted. This thesis shows that the Global North doesn't aim at solving refugeehood rather it is interested in making it irregular, marginalizing refugees, and making use of them in backstage capitalism by sorting them into bureaucratic categories to fit this surplus population in local economies. Refugees are used as a pool of cheap labor that can help stabilize the local labor force and are pitched one against the other in the scarce labor market of the Global South. Refugees are managed in biopolitical sites such as camps and cities to construct their subjectivity as entrepreneurial actors -homo economicus- and as a walking capital- who should showcase and invest in their values as human beings.
