Abstract (EN)

One of the primary objectives of architecture is to create a multi-sensory experience that ensures coherence in perceptual data input within the context of spatial functionality. When users interact with architecturally designed spaces, they are exposed to a diverse and intense flow of perceptual data, including auditory perception. Various physical and socio-cultural factors affect this situation. The study of auditory perception of spaces is typically explored under the multidisciplinary fields of architectural acoustics, soundscape, multi-sensory interactions, and sense of place. However, while the sound design has been an established discipline in movie and video game literature since the early 20th century, it has yet to find recognition in architectural literature. Although the sound design has been integrated into product design since the 1990s, it has yet to be fully adopted in architectural and architectural acoustic literature. Therefore, the main objective of this thesis is to introduce a novel approach to the classification of sound sources based on sound design analysis and synthesis methods commonly used in the film and game industries for sound elements in the built environment. This approach will enable architects and designers to classify sound elements in the built environment based on the functional requirements of spaces.
