Fictions of masculinity in Murat Uyurkulak's novels Tol and Har

In this study, the masculinity fictions in Murat Uyurkulak's first two novels, Tol (2002) and Har (2006), who is one of the important writers of recent Turkish literature, were examined. In the novels, male characters who behave in accordance with gender roles and male identities who act contrary to these roles have been identified. In the first part, the concept of gender is discussed, patriarchy and masculinity concepts are emphasized, then critical masculinity studies are explained. In the second part, the concept of hegemonic masculinity, which is accepted as an ideal model according to gender roles, is mentioned and discussions arising from this concept are included. From this point of view, the concepts of subordinated masculinity, complicit masculinity, marginalized masculinity and protest masculinity were emphasized under the title of "different masculinities". In the third part, summaries of the novels are given, and in the fourth part, the masculinities in Tol and Har are evaluated over all these definitions of masculinity.
