5SUMMARYSlaughter And Carcass Traits Of Native Geese Reared n Local Breeder Condition nMuş ProvinceThis study was held to determine the criterias of a selection for the slaughter andcarcass traits of native geese reared in local breeder condition in Muş. A total of 41 geese ( 17male and 24 female) which were 8-10 mounths of age were used.Live weight , hot carcass and cold carcass weight, blood, feather, head and footweight, heart, liver, gizzard and spleen weight, neck, wing, leg, breast and back weight,abdominal fat weight and inedible viscera weight were 3968.57, 2710.0, 2678.71, 371.42,637.85, 172.14, 131.42, 38.57, 69.29, 144.29, 2.28, 186.43, 506.43, 577.87, 781.43, 642.14,86.07, 177.14 for males, and 3212.22, 2084.44, 2047.59, 277.04, 518.15, 138.52, 112.96,24.81, 76.29, 142.22, 2.18, 143.70, 398.88, 464.07, 597.41, 455.55, 53.14, 189.26 for femalesrespectively.Effects of sex on slaughter and carcass traits were investigated were statisticallysignificant (P<0.01). Live weight , hot carcass and cold carcass weight, hot carcasspercentage and cold carcass percentage, blood, feather, head, foot, heart, neck, wing, leg,breast, back and abdominal fat weight were higher in males ( 3968.57 g, 2710.00 g, 2678.71 g, % 67.45, % 68.23 g, 371.42 g, 637.85 g, 172.14 g, 131.42 g, 38.57 g, 186.43 g, 506.43 g,577.87 g, 781.43 g, 642.14 g, 86.07 g) (P<0.01). However liver, gizzard, and inedible visceraratio to the body (P<0.01) and leg ratio to the cold carcass were superior in females.There were significant relations between carcass traits and body weight, foot and headweights ( r=0.48 and 0.59 male and female respectively) (P<0.05, P<0.01). The correlationcoefficients between carcass traits and feather, gizzard, innedible viscera weight (r=0.74,0.54, -0.56); between liver weight and inedible viscera weight (r=0.54) and between liveweight and foot weight (r=0.63) were high and significant for male geese (P<0.05, P<0.01) Infemale geese, there were obtained high and negative correlations between liver weight andbreast weight, hot carcass weight and cold carcass weight (r=-0.85, -0.55, -0.45, -0.45) andpositive correlations between back weight and percentage of cold and hot carcass (r=0.64 and0.57) (P<0.05, P<0.01).In conclusion, the foot, head and breast weights can be used as the criteria of aselection programme for improvement in fattening of native geese reared in local breedercondition in Muş, and in addition, the feather and gizzard weights can be used for thesepurpose in males and the liver weight was correlated negatively with carcass traits in females.6Key Words: Goose, sex, slaughter traits, carcass traits,
