The functional features of word groups in Mustafa Kutlu's works

Phrases are sets of meaningful lexical units which have specific functions in sentences and are used when we cannot describe things, objects or actions with the help of a single word. The functions that phrases have in a sentence give us very important information on the implementation and function of a language. For this reason, when classifying these meaningful elements, we have to take into consideration not only their structural grammatical features but also their function in a sentence. Current classifying methods are not competent enough to identify and explain phrases from all aspects. Although there are lots of opinions and studies that have been done for a long time, there are still various views on classification of phrases that have not reached a final conclusion on the subject. Mustafa Kutlu, who is one of the important representatives of contemporary Turkish Literature, has been able to reflect all virtues of our language thanks to his rich vocabulary knowledge. That is why Mustafa Kutlu's works have been found appropriate for our study and chosen as our study subject. In the prologue section general information on phrases has been given and classification of phrases has been handled in terms of their structural-grammatical aspects. In the first, the second and the third sections, the phrases identified in Mustafa Kutlu's works have been inspected according to their functional qualities. The phrases in his works have been classified in accordance with their structure types, modifications and variants after they have been studied from a functional-semantic basis and information has been given on their functions in a sentence. The number of the variant examples has been limited to four since the identification of phrases varies in consonance with efficiency of structure types. In the conclusion section, the structure types of the phrases spotted in Mustafa Kutlu's works have been studied according to their modifications and variants and information on their functions and efficiency has been given.
