Mustafa Sabri Efendi's criticism of positivism

Mustafa Sabri Efendi (1869-1954) is one of the last sheikhs of the Ottoman Empire and an important theological scholar. He took a traditional, conservative and defensive line. He spent the last period of his life in Egypt and devoted himself to scientific studies and wrote articles in multiple newspapers and magazines. His works were generally in the style of rejection and criticism. Until his death, he tried to defend the Principles of Faith of Islam by using religious and rational evidence against the philosophical and intellectual denialist movements coming from the West, especially Positivism. In the first part of this study, which consists of an introduction, three chapters and a conclusion, information about Mustafa Sabri Efendi is given. In the second part, Positivism is mentioned. In the third part, Mustafa Sabri's objections and criticisms of modernist/contemporary Muslim writers to understanding and interpreting these issues within the framework of the data of modern science, under the influence of Positivism, are discussed about the issues of Proof of Necessity and especially Sem'iyyât - namely, prophethood, revelation, miracle and resurrection. taken. In the conclusion section, the conclusions reached are included and a general evaluation of the subject is made.
