Mustafa Şekip Tunç and Dergâh magazine

Mustafa Şekip Tunç (1886-1958), accomplished in becoming one of the pioneers in gaining an institutional identity for philosophy and psychological sciences in Türkiye. Throughout his life, he never gave up his pen regardless of the circumstances. His signature was found under many copyrighted works and translation works. In this way, he became world-renowned in the realms of philosophy and psychology. Tunç, who was a good observer and a very careful researcher, also attracted attention with his interest in art. One of the breaking moments in his life was that he joined the staff of Dergah magazine which is the meeting place of patriotic intellectuals. By supporting the Dergah, Tunç both illustrated his support during the War of Independence and contributed to the continuation of cultural activities in the country in that chaotic environment. In this study, some of Tunç's most basic writings, which will directly help us to catch clues about his world of thought from his articles published in Dergah, have been translated into today's Turkish. His ideas on what sort of road map should be drawn in the construction of the new society were discussed by criticizing these articles. It was emphasized that Tunç offered development prescriptions based on tradition by blending modern values with Turkish-Islamic culture.
