Musullu Davud's report concerning rehabilitation in alphabet

This study shows that the alphabet debates in Turkey are not limited to the Republican period, but also dated back to earlier periods. It can be said that the debates during the last period of the Ottoman Empire paved the way for the Republic of Turkey to change the alphabet. This study reveals how early the debates on the alphabet had started with the letter presented to the Parliament by Doctor Davut from Mosul. In the process, it is seen that the discussions about the alphabet were handled by many intellectuals in the Ottoman Empire, and different perspectives emerged in the form of a complete change (transition to Latin letters), the reformation of the existing alphabet or the writing of the letters separately, or even the invention of a new alphabet that reflects the cultural images of Turks entirely from a different point of view. It is shown that the alphabet change in Turkey is not a phenomenon that has been decided out of nowhere, in fact, this process has a historical background. Ultimately, it is emphasized that the transition to Latin letters in the late 1920s was a 'civilizational choice'.
