Abstract (EN)
SUMMARY The Effects of Surface Coating Materials Used For Kitchen Cabinets on the Quality of Particleboards In this study, the effects of surface coating materials on the quality of particleboards and its physical and mechanical properties together with its surface quality were investigated. Samples were obtained from for different sources named A, B, C, D for security of them. A, C and B, D indicate state and private sources, respectively. For veneer coating, 150 g/m2 of urea formaldehyde was used at about 2 kg/cm2 of pressure and 110 °C of temperature for 3 minutes, and then warnish was applied. For lak coating, particleboards were sanded after 250-300 g/m2 lak paste was applied and painted. For continious pressure laminated coatings, samples were kept under 2 kg/cm2 of pressure and 80 °C of temperature for 4 minutes, and 220 g/m2 of urea formaldehyde adhesive was applied for during this procedure. For high pressure laminated coatings, samples were kept under 2 kg/cm2 of pressure and 110 °C of temperature for 4 minutes, and 220 g/m2 of urea formaldehyde adhesive was applied for during this procedure. As for polivinylchloride coating, samples were kept under 2 kg/cm2 of pressure and 90 °C of temperature for 10-15 seconds, and 100 g/m2 of epoxy resins was applied for during this procedure. Boards were conditioned in a conditioning room for three weeks at 20± 2 °C and 65±5 % relative humudity until all the boards reached an equilibrium moistere content. After that boards were recut at the specified dimensions and were replaced in the conditioning room. The following was recorded during the experiments: moisture content, water absorbtion and thickness swelling at 2 and 24 hours after soaking in the water, specific gravity, bending strength, bonding strength, screw holding and some surface quality experiments. As a result of this study, physical and mechanical properties of particleboard veneered using by surface coating materials were increased. It may be concluded that continious pressure laminated and high pressure laminated materials are suitable for kitchen cabinets.
