Urban culture history presentation in museums Antalya example

The aim of this thesis is to investigate and found out, the reasons behind establishing city museums at different cities in Turkey. Since the first examples of city museums has been known from 19th century onwards in Europe, what kind of motives and necessities drives us now (21th century) to establish city museums. According to that in this thesis, we would like to examine city museum concept in Turkey?s perspective and especially newly founding Antalya City Museum exemplar. In this point of view, we would try to indicate, Antalya City Museums main missions, modus and directions. The Antalya City Museum is a project organized by the Greater Antalya Municipality with The History Foundation of Turkey acts as advisor and coordinator from November 2006 until July 2009.In this dissertation only a limited amount of Turkey?s and World?s museums literatures has employed as scientific point of commencement. Due to the fact that, according to the literary work dealing with city museums are restricted. This require to Antalya City Museum based informations especially taking into consideration. In this manner, this study interprets and describes the uniqueness of cities and originality of the Antalya City Museum Project.Even though Antalya city culture title is not different form other cities but it presents historical and ethnographical and socio-political distinctions. In this context, city museums exhibitions mainy Antalya City based. In public representations, if we could not able to find out sufficent degree of material in the core, also also concentrate on city?s periphery.Antalya City Museum Project, while displaying urban, cultural history of this city has based on successive exhibitions. These expositions has mainly performing on two kinds: the first one is permanent displays and the second one is temporary and visiting exibitions. The most important point which must be interestesed in: Antalya City Museum in addition to the presentations, it organises open air concerts, training practices, international-national conferences, panels, symposiums; arranges city/museum/history lectures, seminars, workshops, city cultur tours, dans and cinema presantations etc. According to that, Antalya City Museum Project, attemps to presents and shares urban cultural history with the citizens of Antalya.1-Permanent Displays/Exhibitions- Antalya?s Culinary Culture Exhibition- Down the Ages, Family and Matrionomy History Exhibition in Antalya- Antalya?s Nature Exhibition- What Kind of Future for Antalya? Exhibition- From Karain (Prehistoric Ages) to Present, Antalya Exhibition2-Temporary and Visiting Displays/Exhibitions: It intend to present Antalya historcal, cultural and natural productions or displays famous and known national-international artists works for the public.
