Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was the evaluation of the current situation on the coinage that forms a large part of the museum collections in Turkey and the exhibitions, also the determination of needs and possible improvements in these two subjects. In addition to the literature research and the data obtained from the museums of Turkey, the observations made in Rome and Athens constructed the source of this study. In this direction, the terms and the development of museum, coinage and numismatics are explained in the first chapter. In the second chapter coin collections and exhibitions in museums abroad, the Numismatic Museum of Athens and the numismatic section of the Massimo Palace in Rome were studied including the histories of the museums. In the third chapter the coin collections and exhibitions of museums in Turkey are classified according to their geographical area and they are introduced with examples and their public informations with the number of total and exhibited coins. In the light of all this data the exhibitions in Turkey were compared with the samples that were included from abroad and the recommendations were formed.
