The effect of music reading practices on reading anxiety and attitudes of primary school 4th grade students

The aim of this study is to determine the effects of musical reading practices on primary school 4th grade students' reading anxiety and attitudes. The study was planned to be structured with a pretest-posttest control group the matching- only design, which is one of the quasi-experimental models. In the research, 4th grade students in a public primary school located in Nizip district of Gaziantep province in the 2021-2022 academic year are included. The study group consists of 40 students, 20 in the experimental group and 20 in the control group. In the study, data were collected using the "Reading Anxiety Scale" and "Attitude towards Reading Scale". At the beginning of the process, a pretest was applied to the experimental group and the control group. In the study, musical reading practices were applied to the experimental group for 8 weeks, and only reading practices were applied to the control group. At the end of the research, data were collected by applying a posttest to both the experimental and control groups. Independent groups t-Test, dependent groups t-Test, Skewness and Kurtosis tests were applied to solve the quantitative data. According to the findings obtained from the research, there was no significant difference between the students in the experimental and control groups according to the total mean scores of the Reading Anxiety Scale pretest and posttest. A significant difference was found between the posttest total scores of the experimental and control groups in favor of the experimental group in the "activity" and "process" sub-dimensions of the Attitude Towards Reading Scale. The findings were discussed within the framework of the literature, and suggestions were made for future research.
