New musicology within the context of innovation and criticism in musicology

Abstract (EN)

This study, which has been carried out to identify the definition, aim, scope and method of the New Musicology field in the discipline of musicology, has also examined the differences of New Musicology from Old Musicology. New musicology's contemplation and assessment methods, its concepts, definitions, fields of study, as well as the information related to leading scholars' theoretical frameworks have been acquired after data - obtained from accessible documentation/literature reviewed as part of the present study - have been analysed with the descriptive data analysis technique. As a result of the research, it is determined that the definition of the New Musicology is the post-capitalist, post-positivist, post-modernist music scientific studies analysing music-related problems in a multidisciplinary structure in historical, theoretical, ontological and semantic terms; that the aim of the New Musicology is to examine all processes of music in objective, critical, regenerative (innovative) and progressive frame in terms of political, economic, social, cultural and artistic perspectives; that the scope of the New Musicology with an interdisciplinary and expanding structure consists of studies regarding composition, performance, text value and meaning analysis, ethnomusicology, cultural theory, music psychology, music therapy, film, technology, popular music, gender, diaspora, alterity, hybridity, identity, class, race, as well as economic, cultural, sociological, postcolonial studies; and that the method of New Musicology is Critical Method.
