Abstract (EN)

This thesis addresses the challenges faced by upper limb amputees in their daily activities due to the lack of haptic feedback of their Prostheses. To enhance their functionality, we introduce a haptic feedback unit that utilizes 3RRS (Revolute – Revolute - Spherical) systems for the thumb, index, and middle fingers. Controlled by dual Arduino Nanos, the unit employs force-sensitive resistors to detect user-applied forces, enabling real-time comparison and transferring of sensed forces through 3RRS actuation System. Our study analyzes data encompassing diverse users, object shapes (flat, spherical, circular, cylindrical). Signal patterns and amplitudes exhibit varying degrees of similarity, highlighting the interplay between user behavior, object properties, and system response. Augmenting these findings, subjective users' feedback was investigated. The thesis aims to assess the feasibility and efficacy of the proposed sensing-actuating haptic system in upper limb prostheses. Additionally, it evaluates this system against a simpler 2 Degrees of Freedom (2DoF) design. Through these investigations, this work contributes to advancing haptic feedback in upper limb prosthetics, providing potential avenues for enhanced user interaction and improved quality of life.
