Abstract (EN)

In this study, in order to use the rich boron mineral reserves in our country more efficiently, the main material of which is boron oxide and is prepared by adding rare earth elements, which is also a raw material in our country and which is the subject of new discoveries and investigations, can be an alternative to lead added glasses and can be used in high technology products (Smart device). to produce new generation radiation shielding glasses that can be used (such as screens, space and health technologies). First of all, the phase definition of the manufactured products was made by XRD method and it was determined that the samples were glass with amorphous structure. The chemical bonds and molecular structures of the produced samples were investigated by the FTIR method and it was determined that they were glasses that formed smooth bonds. The light transmittance and absorption spectra of the obtained samples were determined by UV-Vis Spectroscopy method and it was determined that they showed normal glass character. It was determined that the glassy properties of the glasses gave good results and the mechanical properties such as density, hardness, fracture toughness and brittleness were examined and the results were evaluated. Radiation shielding measurements of glass samples were made by Atatürk University, Faculty of Science, Department of Physics. Dr. It was made by using the experimental setup in the Wolf Weyrich High Energy Spectroscopy Laboratory and it was determined that the glass samples had radiation shielding at a level that could be an alternative to lead-doped glasses. The aim of this study is to present scientific solutions by creating a publication (Thesis) that will help in improving the mechanical and physical properties of borate glasses with rare earth elements, as well as radiation shielding.
