Analysis of Abu Said Shah's Hidayetü't-Talibin on the method of Naqshbandiyya-i Mujaddidiyye

Abstract (EN)

The full name of the author of Hidayetü't-Talibîn is Ebû Said Muhammed b. Safiyyü'l-kadr b. Azîzü'l-kadr al-Fârûkî al-Muceddidi ad-Dihlevî (d. 1250/1835). He was referred to as the "Shah", which was given to the tariqa's pirs and sheikhs. He was born on 2 Dhu al-Qada 1196 (October 9, 1782) in Rampur, India, died in India and was buried in Delhi. His work titled Hidayetü't-Talibîn, in which he deals with the Naqshbandiyya method, contains information about seyr u suluk, accompanied by his own spiritual experiences. The transcription of the Turkish translation of Fârûkî's work written in Persian and the analysis of the text constitute the main subject of our thesis. Hidâyetü't-Talibîn was translated into Arabic and Turkish by Veliyyüddinzâde Mehmed Hıfzi Efendi. Fârûkî, in Hidâyetü't-Talibîn, tells about the characteristics of Naqshbandiyya-e Mujaddidiyya, starting from the sâlik's initiation within the framework of his own seyr ü suluk experience. In this study, methodology of Naqshbandiyya-e Mujaddidiyya and Fârûkî's views were tried to be revealed within the boundaries of Hidâyetü't-Talibîn. In the first part of the study, the lives and scientific personalities of Ebû Said Fârûkî, his sheikh Abdullah Dihlevî, his son and caliph Ahmed Saîd Fârûkî are discussed. In the second part, it was tried to analyze the work based on the printed copy of Hidayetü't-Talibîn. In the third chapter, the Turkish translation of the work by Veliyyüddinzâde Mehmed Hıfzî Efendi was transferred to today's letters. The photograph of the Persian copy is presented in the appendices.
