The relationship between narcissistic personality and humor styles and coping

Narcissism, which translates from the word "narcissisme" in French to Turkish, is used to mean "altruism". The characteristic features in personality disorders are also reflected in coping strategies. The fact that personality disorders refrain from seeking social support is also seen as a coping strategy. While grandiose narcissism is associated with the use of harmonious humor (self-cultivating humor and connected humor), fragile narcissism is associated with incompatible humor (aggressive humor) use. These forms of humor mediate the relationships between the pathological forms of narcissism and coping. The purpose of this thesis, which investigates the relationship between narcissistic personality trait and humor styles and coping, is to present the relation between individuals with high narcissistic characteristics and coping styles to coping. In order to examine this relationship, Personal Information Form; Young Compensatory Scale; Narcissistic Personality Invertory; Young-Rygh Avoidance Invertory; Hypersensitive Narcissism Scale (ADNÖ); The Humor Styles Scale was used, then the data were analyzed in SPSS 20.0 program. The results were discussed and the research was concluded. According to the results of the research, narcissism was found to be related to coping and humor styles. In addition to this analysis, aggressive humor and self-destructive humor styles of male participants were found higher than female participants according to the Humor Styles Scale. According to Young Compensatory Scale, sub-dimensions of being rebellious and manipulative were found higher than women. According to the Young Avoidance Scale, while women were high in psychosomatism, social withdrawal, and withdrawal from activity; In the lower dimension of numbness and emotion suppression, men are higher. In all types of humor, singles are higher than in other marital status. According to the Young Compensatory Scale, those who are divorced have a higher rate of excessive independence than married ones. According to Young Compensatory Scale, high school graduates, being manipulative, self-directed; According to the Young Avoidance Scale, high school graduates were found higher than graduate graduates in the sub- dimension of ignoring distress, social anxiety and numbness, and suppressing emotions. Self-Enhancing Humor score decreases as individuals' Fragile Narcissism score increases or Fragile Narcissism score decreases as Self-Enhancing Humor increases.
