Abstract (EN)
Turkey and many economies around the world have entered a comprehensive neoliberal restructuring process since 1980. In particular, international financial institutions have taken an important responsibility to make the neoliberal project possible in countries of various geographies. Likewise, neoliberalization movements in Turkey started and continued with the supervision of these institutions. The resulting economic program has had profound economic, social, and political consequences for Turkey. In general, considering the country's economic performance, political and social experiences, this experiment seems to have failed. The unmeasured liberalization and excessive deregulation movements carried out in the absence of a strong financial infrastructure and vital regulatory structures have dragged the country into an economic and political crisis. The corruption and wasteful environment created by the neoliberal state understanding also caused political collapses. Consequently, political and economic problems that fed each other led to twin crises in 2001. In this thesis, the development of this entire transformation process, the reasons for the failure of the country, and the responsible actors have been tried to be revealed. In this context, it has been determined that international financial institutions are as responsible as Turkish political actors. Our study includes analyzes that will set an example for the results of neoliberalization for developing countries such as Turkey.
