The position of women in social memory in Nermin Yildirim's works

This study centers on the concepts of collective memory and the representation of women, examining these themes through the works of Nermin Yıldırım. Yıldırım addresses the place of women in social memory and various issues that arise in this context with ironic language. Her works construct memory, collective remembrance and the perception of women simultaneously through interconnected elements. While memory often evokes notions of personal recollection, scholarly research highlights that it is predominantly shaped within a social context. Through various social practices such as cultural rituals, belief systems, language, social interaction, and economic activities collective memory is formed,heavily influenced by specific paradigms. These dynamics in social memory significantly affect the behavior of individuals. Paradigms that shape the memory of individuals and society impose certain behavioral patterns and roles on individuals. These roles, in turn, create pressure and control mechanisms on women in different ways. In the context of contemporary social transformations, the issues faced by women have increasingly been positioned at the core of literary narratives. This study further investigates how psychological struggles encountered by women are reflected in Nermin Yıldırım's literary discourse. The research adopts an interdisciplinary approach, drawing insights from literature as well as psychology, sociology, and philosophy. Ultimately, this thesis aims to identify and interpret the representations and transformations of the perception of women within the collective memory as portrayed in Nermin Yıldırım's works, where the drive for survival and creativity is persistently foregrounded.
