Analysis of literary and cultural texts in 'Netzwerk' and 'Aspekte' German course and study books

Day by day, we travel for business, education or cultural purposes and need to communicate with people from different countries. For this reason, as foreign languages gain importance, the tendency to learn a foreign language also increases. For this reason, the books used in language teaching both in schools and foreign language courses gain importance. In our country, the individual who learns the language can only learn the foreign language in the language course or school, but continues to speak his/her mother tongue in his/her own life. For the student who cannot be exposed to the foreign language continuously, the textbook plays an important role. When local foreign language teaching books are not considered sufficient in secondary and higher education institutions, imported books of foreign origin are preferred. In this study, language teaching methods are mentioned and definitions of literary and cultural texts are given. The importance of literary and cultural texts in a textbook in terms of language learning and motivation was emphasized. No matter how old the individual is, colorful visuals, attention-grabbing texts and entertaining activities are motivating. Thus, the student can continue his/her language learning without breaking away from the lesson. When artificial texts are given mostly for grammar teaching, it may cause the student to disengage from the lesson due to lack of interest. Literary and cultural texts also allow the individual to make comparisons between the mother tongue and the target language. For this reason, they are remarkable and intriguing. In this study, the "Netzwerk A1, A2, B1" and "Aspekte B1+, B2, C1" textbooks and workbooks were scanned for literary and cultural texts. What kind of texts are predominantly used in these books was investigated.
