Abstract (EN)

Developments in information and communication technologies have made smart phones an indispensable part of life. Smart phones, which offer many opportunities to make life easier, pose some problems when used unconsciously and excessively. One of these problems is nomophobia, the fear of being deprived of the smartphone. The aim of this study is to examine the nomophobia levels of students studying at Osmaniye Korkut Ata University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences in terms of various demographic variables, smartphone usage patterns and general weighted grade averages. Accordingly, 442 students studying at OKU FEAS were contacted with the survey method and data were collected. SPSS 22.0 program was used in the analysis of the data obtained. Independent-Samples T-test was used to compare the two groups and one-way analysis of variance was used to compare more than two groups. As a result of the analysis, the nomophobia does not differ significantly in terms of age, marital status, class level, education status of parents, family monthly average income, general weighted grade averages, smartphone usage time, internet shutdown at night, and the most frequently used smartphone; gender, department, leisure activity preference, daily smartphone usage time, charge carrying status, waking up and spending time with smart phone before going to sleep, turning off the smartphone at night, the most frequently used social media, instant notification feature being active, notification noticed after checking, the social media application that is reported most frequently and the preferred communication method.
