Evaluation of serum prolidase levels and inflammation markers inpatients with non-functional adrenal incidentaloma

Abstract (EN)

In our research, we focused on examining serum prolidase levels in patients with non-functional adrenal incidentalomas and comparing these levels with those of a healthy control group, while also assessing the associations with age, gender, anthropometric measurements, markers of inflammation, suppressed cortisol. levels, and radiological features. Our study included 96 patients with non-functional adrenal incidentalomas and a control group of 48 healthy individuals, matched for age and gender, in an observational study setup. Among these 96 patients, 71 (74%) were female and 25 (26%) were male, with the average age at diagnosis being 55 years. We observed that 28.1% of the patients were overweight, 42.7% were mildly obese, 10.4% were moderately obese, and 13.5% were severely obese. The most frequently accompanying diseases in order of prevalence were obesity, hypertension, type-2 diabetes mellitus,hypothyroidism, and hyperlipidemia. Patients commonly presented with gastrointestinal symptoms and were most frequently diagnosed through computed tomography imaging. The lesions occurred predominantly in the left adrenal gland, constituting 42.7% of the cases, with an average lesion size of 21.29 mm. Among inflammatory markers, the average fibrinogen level was notably high in patients (374.94±89.42 mg/dl). We identified a negative correlation between age and CRP levels, and a positive correlation between cortisol levels. Additionally, there was a positive correlation between body mass index and the neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio, CRP, sedimentation rate, and mass size, whereas a negative correlation was observed with the number of masses. A significant positive correlation was also found between mass size and cortisol levels. Our findings showed no statistically significant difference in serum prolidase levels between the patient group and the healthy control group (p>0.05). Furthermore, a negative correlation between serum prolidase levels and cortisol levels was observed in the patient group. Key Words: Adrenal incidentaloma, prolidase, inflammation markers
