The relationship between nostalgia proneness and religious orientation: A research about individuals over aged 60

Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed to examine the levels of religious orientation and nostalgia proneness of adults over the age of 60 in terms of some sociodemographic variables (gender, age, marital status, place of residence, education level, occupation, cohabitant) and to explain the relationship between them. The sample of the study consists of 353 randomly selected participants who are adults over the age of 60 residing in different settlements In the study, "Personal Information Questionnaire" including questions related to seven independent variables, "Religious Orientation Scale" developed by Allport and Ross and adapted into Turkish by Cirhinlioğlu to measure religious orientation and "Nostalgia Proneness Scale" developed by Holak and Havlena and adapted into Turkish by Altuğ and Özhan to measure nostalgia tendency were used. The research consists of introduction, conceptual framework, method and practice, findings and interpretation, and conclusion. The introduction part includes the subject, purpose, importance, problem and sub-problems, hypotheses, limitations, assumptions and basic concepts of the research; the second part includes the conceptual framework including the concepts of old age, religion, religiosity, religious orientation and nostalgia; the third part includes the method and application and the fourth part includes the findings and interpretation. In the conclusion, there is a general evaluation of the findings obtained in the research and recommendations. SPSS 26 program was used to analyze the data obtained in the study. Since the data were not normally distributed, Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis H tests were applied for data analysis. The margin of error in the significance level of the results was accepted as "0.05" at most. In the research, it was found that there were significant differences between gender, marital status, place where most of life is spent, education status, occupation, cohabitant and religious orientation, and that there was a positive and significant relationship between religious orientation and nostalgia proneness. In this context, it has been observed that religious orientation is a factor in the increase of nostalgia proneness.
