Abstract (EN)

Nureddin Mahmud Zengi, the ruler of the Zengi State, is a precious and succesful figure socially, politically and militarily in the XII. century. The success of Nureddin Mahmud Zengi in his struggle with the Crusaders; is the main reason for his fame. Nureddin Mahmud Zengi took up a position as the Judge of Aleppo after the death of his father, İmâdıddin Zengi (1146). During his 28 years of rule, he expanded the borders of his state and increased its welfare level. He became one of the symbols of the resistance of the Muslims against the Crusaders.As known, the 11th century is considered as a century in which Seljuks, Abbasids and Fatimids lost power in military and political terms. The problems experienced by the states in their domestic and foreign policies brought with it the deterioration of regional tranquility and peace. The campaigns of the Crusaders to Anatolia in the 21st century completely changed the balances in the region and directly affected the historical flow. The Crusader influence, which continued in the period of Nureddin Mahmud Zengi, was the most important factor that shaped his politics. He fought with the Crusader County of Urfa, the Prinkeps Office of Antakya, the Crusader County of Tripoli in military and political terms and achieved serious success. Nureddin Mahmud Zengi ended the existence of the Fatimid State after he took Damascus and Mosul under his rule and ensured Muslims' loyalty to a single caliph. Nureddin Mahmud Zengi is a charachter who has brought important benefits to his state in social terms. He gained the attention and love of his people with the madrasahs, mosques, hospitals, justice institutions he built. Nureddin Mahmud Zengi's innovations especially in the fields of education, justice and health have contributed to the initiation of these fields in a new period. In the first part of our study; The political situation before the Zengi State and information about the Zengi Family were given. In the second part, Nureddin Mahmud Zengi's personality, expeditions, military and political struggles are studied. In the last part, Nureddin Mahmud Zengi's; administrative, economic, religious, social and cultural institutions have been studied. Key Words: Nureddin Mahmud Zengi, The Crusaders, Second Crusades
