Nurettin Topçu Turkish modernization in the thinker

This thesis called li Turkish Modernization in the Thought of Nurettin Topçu tez consists of two parts. Introduction of the thesis covers the method, purpose and importance of the research. In the first part, the conceptual and factual framework of modernization is tried to be explained. Various dimensions of modernization have been discussed within the historical development. The historical background of Turkish modernization, basic debates and the pioneers of Turkish modernization are explained. Modernization, which started as the first period Westernization effort and then evolved into modernization practices in the republic period and tried to be explained by the intellectuals in different ways, was tried to be explained by various discussions and interpretations during the period. The second part of the thesis is based on Artillery and modernization. Topçu's social, political, intellectual life is briefly mentioned. The point of view of Westernization, its place in Turkish sociology, its method in social sciences and the distinction of cultural civilization are the main subjects that constitute this section. Artillery's opposition attitude towards modernization is seen in thought practices and solutions. In his definition, he is a philosopher who has revealed his originality in his understanding of socialism, his understanding of political and economic management and his understanding of nationalism. Standing directly opposite the western modernization, Artillery also criticizes the capitalist world form very harshly. He argues that the technique, which is a product of culture and civilization, is specific to the producing society, and that it cannot be adapted to other societies. As explained in the second chapter, Topçu puts the religious rules at the center of the thought practices and the moral rules whose source is the religious rules. In the conclusion part, all these conceptualizations, solutions and ways of discussion of Topçu were tried to be interpreted. It has been tried to reveal how much of these solutions can still be up to date against modernization debates. In addition to being a philosophical thinker of his ideas during his lifetime, Topçu's tendency towards the problems of the society as a sociologist and the production of solutions to these problems show that he has an important place in Turkish sociology.
