Analysing of studying patterns of students through the tablet compatible course contents

This study aims to investigate students' behaviours of studying and navigation on tablet compatible course content. In line with this purpose, the navigation structures and the reasons of those structures, the relation between different navigation and students' academic achievements, and their patterns about studying on tablet are examined while students are studying on the tablet-compatible contents. In this study is used the case study method. The study group is consisted by 16 students, who are studying at Computer Programming Department in Üzümlü Vocational School of Erzincan University. Within the scope of the study, a pre-prepared interactive electronic book is used for the undergraduate distance education students. Contents are uploaded to tablets and the students are asked to study on those contents. The studies of the students, which lasts for 25 minutes in average, are recorded by video. After completing the studies of the students, semi-structured interviews are held by watching videos together with the students. The codes, categories, and themes are determined by doing content analysis on the observation (video record) and interview data. According to the results of the study, the students display various navigation structures about navigation and zooming behaviors. Besides, the students take different amount of notes on different studying displays. In the study, certain navigation patterns are come about by classifying students' behavioral differences of navigation and taking notes during the study. It is established that successful students usually show regular and sequential navigation pattern. Students also state that they find enjoyable the experience of studying on tablet, and that it increases their motivation. KeyWords: Tablet PC, Z Book, Mobil learning, study patterns, E Book
