The study of the relationship between academicians' organizational silence levels and humor styles

The purpose of this research is to determine the humor styles and perceptions of organizational silence of academicians working at three public universities in Turkey, to examine them according to some variables and to reveal the relationship between academicians' humor styles and organizational silence levels. The research pattern was defined as relational screening model. The population of the research was composed of 371 academicians working at three state universities in Turkey in the 2020-2021 academic year. Within the scope of the research, the "Scale of Humor Styles" used to determine academicians' humor styles was applied to participant academicians. The "Organizational Silence Scale " was used to determine academicians' perceptions of the organizational silence. In the study, data was obtained using the "Personal Information Form" prepared by the researcher besides the scales. As a result of the research, while it has been found that academicians' organizational silence levels did not differ according to the variables of gender, marital status and the university in which they have worked, it has been observed that they differed significantly according to the variables of administrative duty, academic title and professional seniority. It has been also found that their humor styles did not differ according to the variables of marital status and administrative duties while significant differences have been found according to the variables of gender, academic title, seniority and the university where they have worked. Although there has been no strong relationship between academicians' humor styles and the organizational silence levels, it has been found that there was a partial and low level of relationship, in general, positive humor has a positive effect, negative humor has a negative effect on silence.
