The relationship between marriage satisfaction and psychological well-being among teachers: Sample of Adana

The main purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between the satisfaction of marriage and psychological well-being among teachers according to "the relationship, sex, the situation of having children, sociodemographic variables ( age, years of seniority, the number of children, the duration of the marriage, the income level conception) the ones who assumes the housework and children care". The target population of the study is 20.492 married teachers who work in pre-, primary, elementary and high schools in the central towns of Adana (Çukurova, Sarıçam, Seyhan, Yüreğir). Within this scope, the samples of the research have been formed of 535 teachers who work in 62 different schools by using "Two-Stage Random Method" (Fraenkeland Wellen, 1993:86). In the research, "Personal Information Form" which has been formed by the researcher has been used in order to reach personal data. In order to get the thoughts of the individuals about satisfaction of marriage; "Marriage Satisfaction Scale" which was adapted into Turkish by Canel (2007) has been used. Also, in order to identify the level of psychological well-being; "Psychological Well-being Scale" which was developed by Riff (1989) has been used. SPSS 21 has been used to enter the info into the system. T-Test, one-way ANOVA and correlation techniques have been used in analysing the data. Also, to identify the sources of variables in differences seen in ANOVA, Scheffe F Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney U Tests have been used. Negative meaning relations have been found between; anger level, the spouse's level of communication with his/her family, economical understanding, parental understanding from the marriage satisfaction subscales; and the total point of psychological well-being scales. Negative proceeding meaningful relations have been found between marriage satisfaction total point with psychological well-being total point and PIO subscales (autonomy, environmental dominance, individual development, positive relations, life goals, self-acceptance levels) According to the findings of the research, it has been observed that "as the contentment in the marriage arises, the level of the psychological well-being of teachers arises; and as the contentment in the marriage decreases, the level of the psychological well-being of teachers decreases.
