Examining the relationship between teachers' emotional intelligence levels and organizational citizenship levels

The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between teachers' perception levels of emotional intelligence and perception levels of organizational citizenship and to examine whether various socio-demographic variables affect these perception levels. The research was conducted with a predictive correlational research model, which is one of the quantitative research types. The population of the study consists of 3637 teachers working in public schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education and the sample consists of 499 teachers working in Erzincan province selected by convenient sampling method. "Demographic Information Form", "Rotterdam Emotional Intelligence Scale" and "Organizational Citizenship Behavior Scale" were used to collect the data. While analyzing the data, descriptive statistics measures (frequency and percentages), skewness and kurtosis statistics, confirmatory factor analysis for the validity of the measurements obtained from the measurement tools, and Cronbach's alpha coefficient for reliability were used respectively. Independent samples t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used for group comparisons, and correlation analysis and simple linear regression analysis were used to determine the relationship between variables. According to the findings obtained from the study, the mean of teachers' organizational citizenship perception level was 4.20 and the mean of emotional intelligence perception level was 3.94. It was seen that the average was high level in both variables. There was no significant difference in both organizational citizenship perception levels and emotional intelligence perception levels according to gender, age, marital status, years of seniority, and education level variables. According to the school type variable, there was no significant difference in teachers' organizational citizenship perception levels, but there was a significant difference in their emotional intelligence perception levels. It was seen that the emotional intelligence perception levels of teachers working at high school were higher than those working at primary school and preschool. A low level positive and significant correlation was found between teachers' organizational citizenship perception levels and emotional intelligence perception levels. According to the findings, teachers' perceptions of emotional intelligence predicts 15% of the variance in their perceptions of organizational citizenship.
