Primary scholl teachers and parents' opinions on mentoring role of teachers (sample of Giresun city)

In this study, 140 parents and 140 teachers in the Central District and Dereli District of Giresun were interviewed in order to determine the views of primary school teachers and parents on mentoring roles in the state schools in Giresun. Data were collected by using an open-ended questionnaire prepared by the researcher in line with expert opinions. Teachers and parents ' opinions are shown frequency and percentages using descriptive statistical methods. It was determined that primary school teachers and parents perceived mentoring as a role of primary school teachers and they thought they were mentoring when they played roles that included mentoring activities. It was determined that the primary school teachers supported parents in their economic and psychological problems, professional issues, and relations with the student. In addition, it was determined that teachers asked help from parents for their professional development in recognition and understanding of students and parents. The contributions of mentoring process for teachers, parents and students were determined. In this process, it was understood that the sharing primary school teachers and parents provided parents with the development of parents, school, teacher and the increase of self-confidence on primary school teachers and the primary school teachers developed themselves in personal and professional sense, and a positive school climate was created. In addition to this, in the study, the views of the primary school teachers that they encountered the problems are included in this process.
