The relation level between the burn out of teachers and their perception of leadership behaviors of their administrators: Sample of Mersin province

This research aims to determine whether there is a meaningful relation between the burnout level of the teachers and the leadership behaviors of the school principals based upon the views of the teachers at public schools (Preschool, Elementary School, Middle School and High School) The research population consists of 21.820 teachers that work in public schools (preschool, elementary school, middle school and high school) in Mersin province and other counties in 2012-2013 academic years. 466 teachers have been chosen by using random sampling. The data was collected by using a questionnaire with three sections (Appendix-I). The Appendix I includes Personal Information Form, Leader Behavior Description Questionnaire, and Maslach Burnout Inventory - Teacher Form. The IBM SPSS 20 was used to assess the data. Frequency (f), percentage (%), arithmetic average ( x ), standard deviation (Ss), Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient (r), t test and anova was calculated. According to the results of the research; it was found that emotional burn out levels differ according to tenure in school, occupational seniority and age variables; desensitization burn out levels differ in terms of field of study, age, occupational seniority variables; personal success burn out levels differ with respect to occupational seniority and age variables. There has been no meaningful relation between burn out levels and gender and educational background. According to what teachers perceive, the most frequent leadership behavior that the school principals exhibit is empathizing.
