The relationship of teachers' perceptions to the transformational leadership roles of their managers and levels of organizational commitment

The purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between the perceptions of primary, secondary and high school teachers regarding their administrators' transformational leadership roles and their organizational commitment. In the study, the Mixed Method Research model was used, both quantitative and qualitative research were conducted. The convergent parallel pattern was used in the combination of data. In the quantitative research, the correlational survey model was preferred and in the qualitative research, the phenomenological pattern was preferred. The population of the research consists of official primary, secondary and high school teachers affiliated with the Ministry of National Education (MEB) in the city center of Şanlıurfa in the 2021-2022 academic year. In the quantitative research, 722 valid scale evaluations were obtained from a 750-person sample selected by simple random sampling method. As a data collection tool, a three-part questionnaire consisting of questions on teachers' demographic characteristics, "Transformational Leadership Scale" and "Organizational Commitment Scale" was used. SPSS package program was used in the analysis of the data obtained from the scales. Data analysis techniques such as T-Test, One-Way Anova tests, Tukey test and Correlation analysis were used in the analysis of the relationship between demographic characteristics, organizational commitment and transformational leadership. In the qualitative research, an 8-question semi-structured interview form prepared with the accompaniment of an expert was applied to 17 teachers selected by random purposeful sampling method. The data was analyzed using content analysis method. As a result, a positive medium-level relationship was found between teachers' perceptions of their administrators' transformational leadership roles and their organizational commitment. The same relationship was also emphasized in the interviews. As a result of the findings, it was seen that transformational leadership has an important place in providing organizational commitment.
