Flora of the ohi stream valley and its surroundings (Karakoçan/Elaziğ)

During field studies carried out between 2022 and 2025, 2005 plant samples were collected from the Ohi stream valley and its surroundings in the Karakoçan district of Elazığ, and as a result of the evaluation of these samples, a total of 910 taxa (763 species, 122 subspecies and 25 varieties) belonging to 87 families and 397 genera were determined. 2 of the 910 taxa belong to the Pteridophyta (Ferns) section, and 908 belong to the Magnoliophyta (Seed plants) section. Of the seed plants, 5 belong to the gymnospermae subdivision, and 903 belong to the closed seed (Angiospermae) subdivision. Of the angiosperm taxa, 137 are monocotyledonous (Monocotyledones) and 766 are dicotyledonous (Dicotyledones). Some taxa identified in the research area were determined as new to the scientific world (Vicia freyniana Bornm. subsp. gigantea Behçet & Gülbasan, Allium karakocanense Behçet & Gülbasan and Polygonum elazigense Behçet & Gülbasan). The distribution of taxa, whose distribution was determined in the research area, to phytogeographic regions is as follows: 246 (27,03%) Iran-Turanian phytogeographic region elements, 70 (7,69%) Mediterranean element, 61 (6,70%) Europe-Siberian element and the number of taxa with unknown or multi-regional phytogeographic region is 533 (58,57%). The top 10 families with the most taxa are; Asteraceae 103 (11,31%), Fabaceae 100 (10,99%), Poaceae 62 (6,81%), Lamiaceae 51 (5,60%), Apiaceae 49 (5,38%), Caryophyllaceae 49 (5,38%), Brassicaceae 46 (5,05%), Rosaceae 42 (4,61%) Boraginaceae 32 (3,51%) and Plantaginaceae 25 (2,74%). The distribution of the top 10 genera with the highest number of members in terms of the genera included in the plants whose distribution was determined in our study area is as follows; Trifolium 20 (2,19%), Astragalus 17 (1,86%), Allium 16 (1,75%), Vicia 15 (1,64%), Veronica 14 (1,53%), Ranunculus 12 (1,31%), Centaurea 11 (1,20%), Galium 10 (1,09%), Silene 10 (1,09%) and Medicago 10 (1,09%). Some variations of known characteristics of 82 taxa collected from the study area were revealed in this study. The distribution of 105 taxa in square B8 was determined for the first time in this study. The distribution of IUCN threat categories of 77 taxa (46 endemic, 31 non-endemic) identified in the research area is as follows: CR (6 taxa), EN (5 taxa), VU (18 taxa), NT (7 taxa), LC (35 taxa) and DD (6 taxa).
