Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is to examine the general and state anxiety levels of archery athletes in the young, cadet and older age categories in terms of some variables, to determine and compare their effects on their anxiety levels and to reveal whether there is any significant difference on their sports success. In the research, data were collected using the survey method from the general survey patterns of the descriptive research design. The group of the research consists of a total of 69 archery athletes, 31 women and 38 men, who participated and competed in the national team selections held in Antalya before an international competition in 2023. The "State and Trait Anxiety Scale", which was developed by Spielberger, Luschene and Gorsuch in 1970, and whose validity and reliability studies and adaptation to Turkish were carried out by Öner and Le Compte in 1985, was used as the data collection tool in the study. While the Cronbach's Alpha reliability index of the state anxiety scale was α=0.856, the Cronbach's Alpha reliability index of the trait anxiety scale was obtained as α=0.765. Again, the Pearson Product Moment Correlation of the scale was calculated using the test-retest reliability method and was found to be between .71 and .86 for the trait anxiety scale and .26 to .68 for the state anxiety scale. Statistical analysis of the collected data was made with the SPSS package program. In the analysis of the data, frequency and percentage distributions, which are statistical methods, were taken and parametric tests were used because the variables exhibited normal distribution and homogeneity conditions were met. Among the parametric tests, t-test was applied for double groups and Anova Test was applied for multiple groups. In order to determine whether there is a significant relationship between the success level and some socio-demographic characteristics, a cross-table analysis was performed and the Chi-Square test was applied, and the 0.05 significance level was taken as reference for statistical significance. According to the results of the research, archery athletes' trait and state anxiety levels were determined according to their gender, age, bow classification, sports age, education level, bow category in which they competed, income status, and in terms of anxiety level, the survey conducted during the Archery National Team Selection in Antalya was used for hypothesis tests. No significant difference was found other than gender. Considering the significant difference, it was found that female archery athletes had higher anxiety levels than male archery athletes. Again, no significant relationship was found between state and trait anxiety levels and success.
