Opinions of school administrators and teachers on the meeting management of school principals

The purpose of this research is to examine the opinions of school administrators and teachers regarding meeting management of school principals. This research was designed in the phenomenology pattern, one of the qualitative research designs. The study group of the research consists of 25 school administrators and 25 teachers working in pre-school, primary and secondary education institutions affiliated with the Ministry of National Education in Kırklareli province. Easily accessible sampling was preferred in determining the study group. The data of the research were collected through face-to-face interviews with the help of a semi-structured interview form. Metaphor analysis, descriptive analysis and content analysis techniques were used to analyze the data. According to the research results, school principals' meeting management skills are not at the desired level. It was concluded that school principals mostly had an authoritarian management approach during the meeting, but there were also principals who had a democratic management approach. One of the most important factors affecting meeting management is the attitude of teachers. While preparing for the meeting, determining the meeting time well, developing communication skills, democratic understanding, and having a suitable meeting place positively affect the meeting management, factors such as coming to the meeting unprepared, authoritarian management approach, and the long duration of the meeting negatively affect the meeting management. According to the results of the research, school principals should receive training on meeting management, meeting contents should be well determined and meetings should not be seen as an obligation.
